The C2 Group, a full-service web experience provider specializing in the creation of meaningful web, mobile, and custom application experiences, announced Thursday the launch of the award-winning KentuckianaWorks Career Calculator web application.

In June, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) recognized KentuckianaWorks, a C2 client, as well as the City of Louisville, Ky. and Mayor Greg Fischer with a 2016 National Education Pathways with a Purpose Award and, with it, a $100,000 grant.

Understanding the connection between a postsecondary education and a community’s economic well-being, the National Education Pathways with a Purpose Award recognizes mayor leadership in initiatives that raise the public’s awareness on career and education pathways, inform on education gaps, and ultimately create more career-ready graduates.

KentuckianaWorks, the career training arm of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, partnered with C2 on a web-based, career-focused application that enables users to search real-time labor data by occupation, education, and income. Using these metrics, this “Career Calculator” allows users to view eye-catching and easy-to-understand data visualizations for trends in demand and wages, enabling more informed decision-making regarding academic and career pathways.

“This award was made possible by the vision of our workforce development team, and the execution on that vision by our partner digital agency, The C2 Group,” said Michael Gritton, executive director of KentuckianaWorks.  “Having an engaging and user-friendly application utilizing labor market data will enable our job-seekers to make more informed career and education decisions for their families. This work will promote a cycle where a good education results in family-sustaining wages, which goes to support our next generation of learners and job-seekers.”

The Career Calculator leverages a variety of local and national datasets. These include, but are not limited to, Economic Modelling Specialists, International (Emsi), U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, O*NET Web Services, and the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics.

“Labor market data is crucial to the public’s ability to make informed decisions on educational and career choices, but there is a lack of existing tools that allow the public to search data based on occupation, income, or academic field of study at a local level,” C2 Managing Partner Michael Kunzler said. “Data that is publicly available, meanwhile, can be limited to the state or national levels and can be difficult to understand. This career-focused tool is going to better enable educators, career counselors, and human resources professionals while easily translating business needs into an engaging visual output.”

"It's our life's work at Emsi to grow regional prosperity with data, connecting students, educators and employers,” said Bob Hieronymus, Vice President, Business Development for Economic Modelling Specialists International (Emsi), one of the data source providers used in the solution. “We take great care to provide the very best in labor market data and make it meaningful and easily accessible. The C2 Group takes it one step further in helping our clients make it thoroughly engaging."
