Humminbird and Jetboil are two outdoor brands, both part of the Johnson Outdoors family, but with very different products, customers, marketing strategies and business initiatives. Both Humminbird and Jetboil engaged The C2 Group to redesign and develop their websites while keeping two major requirements in mind.
- Requirement 1) leveraging code from one website to another.
- Requirement 2) minimize content entry, particularly in managing individual products.
C2 solved both major requirements with Ektron CMS and its Digital Experience Hub (DxH) technology.
The process for tackling both projects included delivered designs, creation of specifications, and writing code; all typically on-par for a responsive designed website. However, with the relative newness of the DxH, C2 needed to work closely with both Ektron and Johnson Outdoors.
The DxH was an appropriate choice for Johnson Outdoors as it provides an option for a pre-built connection into a variety of data sources. In the case of Johnson Outdoors, the needed connection was to SharePoint – all product data for Johnson Outdoors is maintained in SharePoint, requiring a DxH connector to SharePoint that would pull data into Ektron.
As a result, Johnson Outdoors is now able to maintain all product data in one central source, SharePoint, with the use of Ektron’s DxH. The final DxH SharePoint connector works seamlessly across both the Humminbird and Jetboil brands, and sets the stage for a major re-use opportunity for other Johnson Outdoors web properties.
